In a major update, journalist Marcos Benito of El Chiringuito TV reports that Barcelona captain and defensive mainstay Ronald Araujo has as many as three offers from the Premier League.

Araujo, 25, has been locked in contract negotiations with Barça for some time now without reaching a resolution. The Catalans have tabled their proposal and have been waiting for a response from his camp, which has not come yet.

As such, reports have suggested that Barcelona have informed Araujo to either make an effort and accept the terms offered despite the salary being lower than what he is being offered elsewhere, or bring in a proposal of around €90-100 million so that he can be sold.

Manchester City, Man United, and Newcastle interested

Now, as per the information from Marcos Benito, it is Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United who are keenly interested in Ronald Araujo and have put forth offers for the Uruguayan defender.

Manchester United’s interest in the 25-year-old Barcelona mainstay is not new, with the Red Devils understood to be pressing hard to sign him this summer by even offering to double the wages he would earn with the Blaugrana.

But their chances of signing Araujo could be impeded by neighbours Manchester City, who would offer a greater chance for the defender to challenge for and win trophies while also being able to offer Champions League football.

Newcastle United, too, are understood to be in the fray as far as Araujo is concerned and have the financial mettle to offer a big sum for his signing as well as a lucrative contract.

Barcelona wish to keep Araujo

Barcelona, for their part, have always wanted to retain Araujo, with club president Joan Laporta and director Deco insisting as much on multiple occasions.

New manager Hansi Flick is also understood to share the same view.

Araujo, for his part, is happy at Barcelona but wants to feel valued by the club and wants a contract that is reflective of his standing and importance in the team.

With three big Premier League clubs now coming forward with offers, it remains to be seen what the Uruguayan international chooses.
