Barbara Berlusconi berated Inter Milan, AC Milan and everyone else involved in the ongoing San Siro soap opera.

In 2019, the two clubs launched a shared plan to build a new modern stadium in place of the current Giuseppe Meazza.

Nevertheless, bureaucratic hurdles prevented them from doing so. Last season, a restriction was imposed to prevent the demolition of the current ground, citing its historical and cultural value.

This prompted Milan to work on their own project in San Donato, with Inter doing likewise in Rozzano. These are two regions on the outskirts of Milano.

Nevertheless, the City Mayor Giuseppe Sala is desperate to keep the two Serie A giants in Milano. So he proposed a plan to renovate the current San Siro stadium and instructed WeBuild to present the two clubs with a detailed project.

But after months of reflection, Inter and Milan decided to turn down the renovation plan. They communicated their decision to the mayor in a meeting held earlier today.

The two clubs have instead resorted to the original plan of building a new stadium in the San Siro region next to the current Giuseppe Meazza ground.

For her part, Barbara Berlusconi ridiculed the whole saga, considering it a humiliating Italian comedy play.

“The whole affair is humiliating for a city like Milano, a symbol of modernity, innovation and which has always been ahead of its time,” said the former Milan Deputy Managing Director in her interview with ANSA via FcInterNews.

“It’s a real Italian comedy made specifically to avoid making any decisions.

“Months went down the drain to note the obvious: They can’t renovate the San Siro. That’s because the potential costs are not sustainable and very far from the suggested figures.

“Therefore, we’re back to square one, the same proposal from 2019.”
