Manchester United aren’t looking to replace departing sporting director Dan Ashworth, but the latter could bounce back by landing another top Premier League post.

The Red Devils announced the shocking departure of the 53-year-old in a brief statement released by the club’s official website on Sunday morning.

And while the official note reads “by mutual consent”, it was widely believed the director was unceremoniously shown the door after failing to adjust to life under INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Regardless, this put an end to Ashworth’s five-month spell at Carrington.

According to The Sun, the Man United hierarchy isn’t searching for a replacement, at least not at the moment. Instead, the sporting director’s tasks will be divided among the club’s other top officials, including CEO Omar Berrada.

Moreover, the British newspaper revealed that Ashworth could rebound by joining Manchester United’s rivals, Arsenal.

It is well-known that the Gunners are searching for a new sporting director to replace Edu who vacated his post last month.

Hence, the source believes Ashworth’s connections could land him the role in North London, particularly his good rapport with Arsenal’s managing director Richard Garlick, as the two men seamlessly collaborated at West Bromwich Albion for three years.

Furthermore, the report reveals that Everton could also emerge as another suitor for the former United director. But at the moment, the Toffees are waiting for Friedkin Group to finish their takeover.

So thanks to his solid resume which includes successful stints at Brighton, Newcastle United and the English FA, Ashworth should find himself a new role sooner rather than later.
