It’s been well-documented that Atletico Madrid are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer, and one player that they have had their eye on over the last few months is Ederson dos Santos.

However, their pursuit took a hit when he shone in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final, thus increasing his suitors. This also increased his asking price, up to a reported €60m – well out of Atleti’s range. In order to get their man, they’d need it to come down.

In the coming weeks, it could do just that. The 24-year-old is currently with Brazil at the Copa America, although he did not feature in their opener against Costa Rica (0-0). According to Marca, this has pleased Atleti officials, who see it as a step in the right direction towards lower the price they would need to pay to sign him.

Ederson would be a top-tier signing for Atletico Madrid, although it is understandable that he is unaffordable for now, given that the majority of funds are being used on much-needed defenders. It remains to be seen whether a deal does become possible later this summer.
