Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has weighed in on the ongoing Dani Olmo situation, which has become a significant issue for Barcelona.

Simeone appeared to echo Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s sentiment by expressing his hope for uniformity in the application of football regulations.

Asked when is fair that Barcelona can register Olmo in violation of the rules that govern the Spanish competition for other clubs, Simeone said,

Well, you are asking the question and answering it. We simply hope that the same rules apply to everyone.

“Of course, I do not doubt that this will happen. If he is allowed to play, then welcome, but if the rules do not allow him to do so, then he will not be able to play,” he said as quoted by SPORT.

What’s the latest with the issue?

As of now, Barcelona has been unable to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor despite being three days into the new year.

The club remains fully committed to resolving the matter through the standard legal channels, believing that both players will continue to represent the Blaugrana in the second half of the season.

However, if the issue remains unresolved, a worst-case scenario looms, where both players could terminate their contracts just 24 hours before the winter transfer window closes.

Joan Laporta and the club’s management are actively addressing the problem.

Everyone is involved

A high-level meeting was held at the Camp Nou offices earlier, with Laporta joined by vice-president Rafa Yuste, director Joan Soler, and financial officer Ferran Olive.

During the discussion, they reviewed the latest developments and formulated a plan to secure the players’ registration.

Based on the information presented, Laporta reportedly shared assurances with Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, expressing confidence that the necessary approvals would come through.

A lot is speculated

It is speculated that Laporta might address the media today, assuming Olmo and Víctor are successfully registered by then.

The club is optimistic and has submitted all required documentation to both La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

At present, Barcelona are not contemplating alternative outcomes. However, until an official statement is made by the governing bodies, no public comments or updates will be provided.
