FC Barcelona might be grappling with the issues surrounding the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor but the January transfer window is now open and other clubs might be beginning to plan out their moves in the transfer market.
There are some players who look like they are born to play for a particular club and seeing on-loan Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet playing for Atletico Madrid this season certainly gives that kind of a feeling.
Lenglet might have never really endeared himself to Barcelona fans during his time at the club but his performances for Atletico this season have been top-notch. He has fit into Diego Simeone’s system like a fish would take to water.
Slowly yet surely, the 29-year-old Frenchman has established himself as a regular starter for the Madrid-based club. Now, as per Fichajes, Atletico are very happy with Lenglet’s performance and wants to sign him on a permanent basis.
The report has revealed that Atletico Madrid are preparing their first offer for the French defender and are willing to pay between €8m and €10m to sign him permanently. This could be the beginning stages of negotiations for Barcelona.
The Catalan club has been trying to get Lenglet off their wage books for quite some time now and for three successive seasons, all they have managed is to get him loan deals. Thus, one would assume that they will take whatever money they get to let him go permanently.
Lenglet’s astronomical contract was Josep Maria Bartomeu’s parting gift to Barcelona fans days before he resigned from his presidential reign. It was the icing on the cake that has since put the Catalan club in enormous financial distress.
At this point, one would argue that Barcelona must not really worry about how much money they would get for Lenglet but rather focus on getting rid of him. Let’s wait and see how negotiations with Atletico Madrid pan out.
