Atlanta United have now won back-to-back games for the first time following Wednesday night's dramatic 3-2 victory over visiting Orlando City.
The Five Stripes trailed for the majority. But after César Araújo's inexplicable decision to touch the throat of Mateusz Klich and prompt an immediate red card, Atlanta rallied to victory against the 10-man Lions behind Bartosz Slisz's wonderful 83rd-minute strike from distance and Jamal Thiaré's winner deep into second-half stoppage time.
After what might be Atlanta's most important result of the season, here are full rankings for every Five Stripes player involved, as well as manager Ronny Deila.
Brad Guzan (GK) – 6.5/10: Led from behind as the captain, keeping the defenders focused. Guzan made three key saves to keep his team in the game, but let in two goals.
Ronald Hernández (RB) – 6.0/10: Provided width, which stretched Orlando’s team but had some defensive lapses, which allowed Marco Pasalic to create havoc a few times, losing seven of his nine duels.
Luis Abram (CB) – 6.0/10: Strong in the air but struggled against Orlando's speed, hence he was substituted in the 82nd minute.
Derrick Williams (CB) – 6.0/10: Showed leadership and commanded the box expertly both while defending and attacking during set pieces but was part of the defensive errors that led to Atlanta conceding twice.
Matt Edwards (LB) – 6.0/10: Supported the attack but left gaps. He looked like a very young player still learning his craft.
Saba Lobjanidze (RM) – 7.0/10: Consistent threat on the wing. He was instrumental in the first and third goals. He should have gotten his name on the score sheet, too, but he muffed up his two big chances.
Jay Fortune (CM) – 7.5/10: Worked hard connecting defense to attack. A key figure in Ronny’s midfield trio.
Bartosz Slisz (CM) – 8.0/10: Solid in midfield and scored a crucial goal. The key player in the attack, scored one and assisted another. Easily one of the best players on the pitch, hence he was the player of the match.
Miguel Almirón (LM) – 7.0/10: Played energetically, creating several chances. His unselfishness kept him off the score sheet.
Latte Lath (ST) – 6.5/10: Provided some danger but didn’t finish well. His goal drought continues as he searches for his 6th goal of the campaign.
Mateusz Klich – 6.5/10: Brought experience and steadiness when he came in.
Pedro Amador – 6.0/10: Added energy but didn’t do much.
Edwin Mosquera – 6.0/10: Came on late with little impact and missed a sitter, which would have made the game safe.
Jamal Thiaré – 7.5/10: Scored the game-winning goal after coming off the bench. His purple patch continued as he made it two from his last two encounters from the bench.
Ronny Deila - 8/10: Deila's performance in this match was well-received by the Atlanta United faithful; his strategic substitutions, formation change, and motivational leadership were instrumental in the team's comeback. These decisions reflect a high-caliber coaching performance, showcasing Deila's ability to adapt and inspire his team effectively.
