Athletic Club to lean on influence of brother Iñaki to keep Nico Williams away from Barcelona | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga outfit Athletic Club are hopeful of family ties proving decisive once more this summer, in convincing Nico Williams to stay put.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Saturday provided an insight into the situation.

Wide-man Nico has of course seen his name dominate the media headlines across Spain once more over recent days.

This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old has agreed on the terms of a contract with Barcelona.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word doing the rounds online this weekend is anything to go by, then Athletic Club, as of yet, have not thrown in the towel when it comes to efforts to convince Nico to stay put.

The Basque outfit are ready to offer their star winger a bumper new contract featuring a considerable raise.

Should all else fail, though, the board at San Mamés will play their trump card.

As per Sport, after brother Iñaki played a pivotal role in talking Nico into remaining last summer:

‘Athletic, although less optimistic, refuse to throw in the towel and once again trusts in the love and affection of the Williams family’ – specifically attacking star Iñaki – ‘towards the club to retain the player’.
