He has become the assistant coach at Austrian Bundesliga side Rheindorf Altach, the side he spent the last three years of his career playing for after departing Hillsborough in 2020.

Of course, it's very early days in the Kosovan's coaching career, but Wednesday supporters may just be keeping tabs on how he gets on in Austria's top-flight, and perhaps a return to the Owls could be on the cards one day if he impresses.

While his playing days at Sheffield Wednesday came to an end in the summer of 2020, his coaching career allows him the chance to possibly return to the club one day, and given the impact he had at Hillsborough as a player, there's no doubt that he'd be welcomed back with open arms.

Atdhe Nuhiu could return to Sheffield Wednesday as a coach one day

Nuhiu is much-loved by Sheffield Wednesday supporters thanks to his seven-year spell at the club as a player, and there's no reason why he couldn't return to the club one day as a coach.

The former striker clearly has a passion for coaching and took it up as soon as he retired, at a decent level too, in the Austrian top-flight.

However, Rheindorf Altach are currently in the lower echelons of the Austrian Bundesliga, and it'll be interesting to see whether Nuhiu's arrival as assistant coach will help propel them up the league.

Nuhiu has wasted no time in getting into coaching after only retiring last month, and it remains to be seen just how ambitious he is, but perhaps one day he could well be in the dugout at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Of course, there's a long way to go before that becomes a possibility, and he'll need plenty of experience before being worthy of a job as big as the one at Wednesday, but it could be an ambition of his to return to South Yorkshire in a coaching capacity.

The 35-year-old is very early in his coaching career, but stranger things have happened and a return to Sheffield Wednesday as a coach is something that shouldn't be ruled out in the future.

Atdhe Nuhiu is fondly remembered at Sheffield Wednesday

Nuhiu spent seven years at Sheffield Wednesday, helping them enjoy some of their most successful days in recent seasons as they reached the play-offs in consecutive seasons, reaching the final in 2016, where they were defeated by Hull City.

He made 277 appearances, scoring 50 goals and registering 27 assists, and it's fair to say that the Kosovo international spent the best years of his career at Hillsborough.

While 50 goals in 277 appearances perhaps isn't a particularly impressive strike rate, he became a cult-hero with his committed performances, and anyone who makes that number of appearances for one club is always going to be fondly remembered.

His four goals in nine appearances against Yorkshire rivals Leeds United also helped to endear him to supporters, and while it was the right time for him to move on in 2020, supporters will have plenty of fond memories of his time at Hillsborough.
