ASU2025: Argentina claim 95 medals, finish fifth in the table
The Argentine delegation, composed of 338 athletes (172 men and 166 women), won 95 medals -27 gold, 38 silver, and 30 bronze- and finished fifth in the medal table of the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay. Review the main achievements and the list with each podium.
Cycling brought the first joys for the delegation at ASU2025 with the silver medal of Julia Benedetti Venturella and the bronze of Delfina Dibella Latorre, both in the individual time trial discipline. In addition, cycling awarded two golds to the delegation: Santiago Gruñeiro, in men's track cycling omnium and Julieta Benedetti in road. And also a bronze from Octavio Salomón.

Agostina Hein broke records in the swimming events and ended her participation by giving Argentina eight medals! And she won three of the 27 golds that the delegation has accumulated. The native of Campana met all the expectations that were on her: she first won the 400m freestyle and added the victory in the 400m medley and in the 200m medley.
In addition, the Viking, who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at only 16 years old, was part of the 4x100 freestyle relay team that won the bronze along with Magdalena Portela Walter, Lucía Gauna and Malena Santillán. She finally added the silver medal in the 4x100 women's medley relay alongside Cecilia Diekele, Catalina Acacio and Gauna.
As if all that were not enough, she also contributed in the mixed events to win the silver medal both in the 4x100 freestyle relay with Gauna, Matías Chaillou and Matías Santiso. In the 4x100 medley, she won silver with Gauna, Ulises Saravia Peláez and Dante Nicola Rho.
Ulises Saravia gave another gold to Argentina, in the final of the 100-meter men's backstroke, with a time of 53.89 (junior Pan American record) and also achieved qualification for the 2027 Pan American Games.
Malena Santillán, meanwhile, also added a gold in the 200-meter backstroke that even came with a South American record of 2:10.36, thus surpassing the previous mark of Brazilian Fernanda de Goeij of 2:11.95 in 2019.
Another of the Argentine golds in Asunción came from Ignacio Espínola, who won in the 58 kilos category in taekwondo, while the tennis players Sol Larraya and Candela Vázquez won the women's doubles and the men's was also for Argentina thanks to Ian Vertberger and Dante Pagani.
Team sports also brought joy to the Argentine delegation: Rugby 7, the men's 3x3 Basketball team and field hockey also both men and women added more gold medals.
On the other hand, Aramís Sánchez gave the 17th gold medal to the national delegation. He did it in Canoeing, in the C1 1000m Men's specialty, with a time of 4:17.18. The podium was completed by Mateus Nunes from Brazil, who took the silver and José Gil from Mexico, who won the bronze. In the same discipline, but in K1 200m Women, Paulina Barreiro took first place with a time of 45.71.
As for water skiing, Francisco Giorgis gave the albiceleste team another gold medal by winning the men's jump competition. With a score of 54.6, he led the podium above the American Jake Abelson and the Canadian Jacob Chambers. Meanwhile, Tomás Olivera won in hammer throw with an attempt of 70.61 meters -junior Pan American record- and the delegation reached its twentieth gold medal in the tournament.
The day on Friday started off great for Argentina, which added two more golds in speed canoeing. In the K4 500m category, the albiceleste male and female representatives were the fastest and climbed to the top of the podium. Then, Federico Capello was crowned champion in BMX and achieved qualification for Lima 2027.
This Saturday, the joys were renewed early with a new gold medal from Vicente Vergauven and Baltazar Itria in Canoeing, K2 500M men's category.
