Currently on loan at Stockport County, Aston Villa striker, Louie Barry, could be set to sign for Championship club, Derby County, according to Sky Sports.

Ever since he was signed by Barcelona B as a standout youngster back in 2019 aged just 16, Louie Barry would appear to have been earmarked for greatness.

It’s not unfair to say that, as yet, he hasn’t really fulfilled that early promise, however, at just 21 years of age, the Aston Villa youngster still has the majority of his football career ahead of him.

Aston Villa ace Louie Barry could sign for Derby in January

Currently on loan at League One side, Stockport, it would appear that Unai Emery, whilst still not trusting the player at Villa, wants him to continue his development in the Championship, even though Leicester were recently linked with the player.

To that end, a move to Derby County has been mooted by Sky Sports journalist, Dan Bardell.

I think it is quite clear that Villa will recall him and send him on loan to the Championship,” he said to Villa News.

I think it makes perfect sense to do that. He’s basically completed League One. He’s proven himself at that level and he’ll have to do it again in the Championship.

It makes sense for him to move to a lower-end Championship club where he’s guaranteed to play, Derby or someone like that.

I think that would be a good move – they will give him a chance and that’s what he needs.

Is there a future for Louie Barry at Aston Villa

So far in what is still, effectively, a very short career, Louie Barry has been loaned by Aston Villa to Ipswich, Swindon, MK Dons, Salford City and Stockport.

He’s become a journeyman pro when barely out of his teens, and former Villa striker, Stan Collymore, had his say on the player’s development.

Another loan, even if it’s seen to be a step up in quality, surely has to be the final one before the Midlanders make a final decision on whether they feel the player has what it takes at the very top level or not.
