Manchester United’s long-term midfield target, Adrien Rabiot, is reportedly wanted by Aston Villa.

The Red Devils have had massive issues in the centre of the park all season as they have lacked the required tactical nous or positional discipline to stop teams carving through them at will.

Casemiro has come off one of the worst performances of his career and really only 19 year old Kobbie Mainoo can come out of this season with any sort of pride in his midfield displays.

It is very likely that the Brazilian will leave the club in the summer and United are keen to bolster this area.

Names such as Joao Neves and Youssouf Fofana have been linked to the Mancunian side but one name just won’t go away.

United were reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign Rabiot as a free agent in 2022 but the move broke down due to wage demands.

United are said to be interested in the player once again but any such deal could be complicated by other team’s interest in the French international.

Bayern Munich are reported to be serious admirers of the player but another threat to United’s ambitions comes from closer to home.

Tuttojuve.com claim that “Aston Villa – which wants to strengthen its playing staff in view of the Champions League – is thinking about Adrien Rabiot.”

In addition, “Unai Emery, the coach who coached him a few years ago at PSG, considers him an exemplary professional and would always like to have a player of his quality in his teams.”

Aston Villa’s qualification for Europe’s premier competition could be a problem for United as they have already expressed interest in another Old Trafford target, Ronald Araujo.

The website also claims more problems for the Red Devils as it seems that the Frenchman “will give priority to the discussions with Juventus and thus understand what the project will be with the new coach” after Massimiliano Allegri was recently sacked from the Juventus job.

Rabiot at 28 years old is certainly not a particularly popular choice with United fans and would definitely demand high wages leaving as a free agent.

INEOS have spoken of their desire to sign younger and hungrier players and the Frenchman would be a significant departure from this line of thinking.
