An out-of-favour member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has been left perplexed by his omission from the club’s travelling squad bound for Asia on Friday.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Oriol Romeu as the player in question.
Romeu has for his part spent the last week training alongside Barcelona’s first-team squad.
This comes after the 33-year-old was called back to Catalunya’s capital, after Girona opted against making his loan signing permanent this summer.
Romeu has long been aware that he does not feature in the plans of Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick forward, with the parties actively working towards parting ways once and for all over the weeks ahead.
As alluded to above, though, the former Southampton man evidently nevertheless expected to be afforded a place on the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
The Spanish champions on Friday unveiled their squad bound for Japan for a trio of upcoming fixtures.
And Romeu was one of just a trio of senior players left off the list, alongside Pau Víctor (on the verge of a transfer) and Marc-André ter Stegen (injured).
In turn, as per a report from Sport:
‘Hansi Flick decided that the midfielder would be the only one to be ruled out who would stay in Barcelona working alone, something that has not sat very well with a player who has never caused problems at the Blaugrana club and who could have continued in the team’s dynamic until finding a solution to his departure.’
