AS Monaco currently have just two strikers at their disposal: Breel Embolo and George Ilenikhena. That is after Folarin Balogun, who returned from a dislocated shoulder at the end of November, suffered a reoccurrence of the shoulder issue. The USMNT forward will undergo surgery in the coming days and is set for a considerable period of absence.
Les Monégasques are therefore looking to dip into the market, as Adi Hütter confirmed. “We have an eye on the market but it is not easy. For sure, we won’t spend too much on a big transfer though,” began the Monaco manager in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
He added, “We have our eyes open. We have to find the right [striker]. I think it is necessary to talk about a new striker because we don’t know the duration of Balogun’s absence… we know about three months. We have our eyes open for a winter transfer. It’s not easy and we have to find someone who can help us.”
The Monaco manager went on to reveal the type of deal they were looking to secure. “I don’t know exactly if we can buy someone. I think it makes more sense to have someone here on loan. We’ll have discussions after this game. We have some solutions but we have to find the right one,” he said.
Joan Tincres has performed well for the academy side and was included in the matchday squad to face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week. “He has an opportunity for sure. He had a really good start to the season. He has scored a lot and is an intelligent striker. For sure, he can be a topic to be in the squad (against Stade de Reims on Saturday). When you have only two strikers, he is one that could be in the squad,” said Hütter.
