Arsenal have had some bad luck with injuries to their full-backs so far this season, though things appeared to be going a little better at left-back over the last few weeks.

Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kieran Tierney have all returned to fitness, and all three were available in Mikel Arteta’s squad for the game against West Ham United on Saturday.

One player who wasn’t was Myles Lewis-Skelly, with Arteta confirming after the game that he’s now among the list of injury absentees.

“We had an issue with Gabi [Magalhaes], we have an issue with Ricky [Calafiori] as well, yesterday we lost Thomas [Partey] and Mikel [Merino] and Myles [Lewis-Skelly] which was very bad news,” Arteta confirmed.

Partey, Merino, and Lewis-Skelly all picked up injuries on Friday, in Arsenal’s final pre-match training session. But Lewis-Skelly had already been dealing with an injury even before that.

The 18-year-old missed Arsenal’s match against Nottingham Forest the previous week through injury, only returning to the bench for the midweek fixture against Sporting CP.

It’s unclear at this stage whether Lewis-Skelly’s latest injury is a reoccurence of his previous knock, or if it’s an entirely new problem.

Either way, he’ll want to be back quickly, as Arsenal have Manchester United on Wednesday.

The Arsenal academy are also playing in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday, and Lewis-Skelly is still eligible for that competition if he’s fit, willing, and not needed by the first team.
