Paris Saint-Germain will return to the French capital with a one-goal lead after edging Arsenal 1–0 on Tuesday night at Emirates Stadium in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal.

The Ligue 1 side got off to a strong start, with Ousmane Dembélé finishing off a move he initiated just four minutes in. He passed the ball wide to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who cut inside the box and sent it back with the outside of his foot. Dembélé then met the pass with a low shot that brushed the post on its way in.

Arsenal thought they had equalized later, but a VAR review disallowed the goal, keeping PSG in control as they head into the return leg in Paris.

The disallowed goal was a tough blow for Arsenal, especially considering how the second-half start could have shifted the momentum in their favor.

Mikel Merino, who had scored the disallowed goal, admitted he was devastated to see it ruled out. He acknowledged it was a major turning point in the match but remains hopeful that luck will be on their side when they face PSG again next week.

“It was tough, but those are the margins that we manage in these kinds of games,” Merino told Arsenal’s official website. “This is elite football, and a few centimetres can determine your future. So, hopefully, in the second leg, those 10 centimeters can go to our side.”
