The Arsenal u18s have made a strong start to 2025, with FA Youth Cup wins over QPR and Fulham, and a league victory against West Ham United.

But it was going to be tricky keeping that run going against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday given the absence of key player Max Dowman – in Dubai with the first team. A few players from the u16 age group were also missing for the u16 Premier League Cup, leading to some u15 call-ups.

Dowman isn’t the only player to impress for the u18s in 2024/25 though, and midfielder Dan Casey gave the team the lead in the 10th minute for his 12th goal in all competitions this season.

West Brom levelled midway through the second half, before another in-form Arsenal youngster Andre Harriman-Annous helped his team reclaim the lead.

Harriman-Annous has received regular substitute opportunities for the u21s recently, and his goal put him on 14 for the season.

The forward has scored in the u18 Premier League, the Premier League 2, the UEFA Youth League, the FA Youth Cup, the EFL Trophy, and the u18 Premier League Cup this campaign. Which is every competition he’s played in.

The game wasn’t done yet, and West Brom equalised from the penalty spot in the 91st minute, in an incident that also saw Brayden Clarke sent off for a second yellow.

Yet just two minutes later, Louis Zecevic John scored Arsenal’s third and reclaimed all three points for his team.

The u18 Premier League South has been a mess of postponements this season, so whilst Arsenal currently sit eighth, they have the games in hand to potentially catch up with seventh, sixth, fifth, third, and second in the table.

The only teams currently beyond their reach are first-place Aston Villa (nine points ahead having played a game more) and fourth-place Fulham (six points ahead, no games in hand).

There’s evidently still plenty to play for, with a trip to Southampton up next on Saturday, February 15th at 12:00 GMT.
