Arsenal go into the final day of the Premier League season with their hopes of securing the title now faint, but still alive. The Gunners need to beat Everton and hope that Manchester City drop points at home to West Ham if they are to win their first title in 20 years.

The Toffees are safe despite a tumultuous season of points deductions and off-the-field issues and they would love to end what has been a dramatic campaign with a win.

The home team have won a club-record 27 league games this season however and have the best defensive record in the division, so are well fancied to push the Citizens all the way to the line by beating Sean Dyche’s side.

Despite Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham meaning that Arsenal’s chances of lifting the Premier League title look slim, Mikel Arteta was positive in the build up to the clash against Everton, stating: “fighting for the Premier League in front of our people, with our families who are there. We’re going to have an amazing day together.”

The Spaniard heaped praise on the efforts of his players over the season, who broke the club record for most wins in a 38-game season with their victory over Manchester United last weekend.

“It will go down to history and a big credit to those players and the staff for what we are doing. To achieve that with the long history that we have, that’s down a lot to the quality, but also to the determination and the mentality of this team.”

Their tally of 27 league wins is more than the Gunners managed in their double-winning campaign of 2001/02 or the Invincibles season of 2003/04, demonstrating the difficulty of getting the better of Manchester City over the course of 38 games.

Arteta will hope that results go his team’s way on Sunday but has stated that he is proud of their efforts as they have again gone close against the team that have won five of the last six Premier League titles.

Arsenal go into the final game of the season with few injury concerns, Jurrien Timber is the only major doubt as he is being eased back into the fold following his long-term absence while Bukayo Saka is expected to shake off a knock to feature.

Everton have more concerns, though, as they are expected to be without Vitalii Mykolenko, Nathan Patterson, Jack Harrison and Dele Alli, who are all missing with longer-term injury issues.

Andre Gomes is a doubt with a facial injury and Sean Dyche may be cautious with the midfielder.
