Arsenal could make a surprise move to sign Inter Milan centre-back Yann Bisseck during the January transfer window, according to Inter Live.
The Gunners bolstered their backline this summer by signing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. The Italian has already made a couple of substitute appearances.
Jurrien Timber has also been like a new signing, having made just two appearances last season after picking up a serious knee injury.
Despite this, the club continue to be linked with more defenders, and Bisseck is reportedly ‘very much liked’ by manager Mikel Arteta.
Inter are open to sanctioning his sale for £21 million this winter, but a transfer could depend on whether the German wants to pursue a new challenge
Takehiro Tomiyasu has been on Inter’s radar in the past and Arsenal could offer him to the Nerazzurri in a swap deal for Bisseck.
The Gunners reinforced their central defensive department with Calafiori this summer, but he has operated at left-back in his first two appearances.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are undisputed starters for Arsenal. They are likely to play every game, barring the Carabao Cup.
If they stay fit and firing, Arteta may not contemplate a change.
The club are unlikely to sign another centre-back. Calafiori, Timber, Tomiyasu, Jakub Kiwior and Ben White can also play in the heart of the defence.
Tomiyasu has been the most injury-prone defender in the squad, but Arsenal have shown recently that they won’t entertain any high-profile mid-season departures.
