Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP for a package worth up to €73.5m (£63.7 million).

That's according to the Athletic's David Ornstein who claims that a deal has been struck between both parties with an official announcement soon.

According to the report, Gyökeres has chosen the number 14 shirt, made iconic by club legend Thierry Henry.

The drawn‑out negotiations, centred on the structure and attainability of the add‑on triggers, have finally reached a breakthrough after Sporting insisted on achievable clauses and Arsenal agreed to modify their terms accordingly, dropping more ambitious stipulations such as a bonus tied to winning the Ballon d’Or.

The 27‑year‑old forward is expected to complete a five‑year contract in London, with reports stating he could earn around £7m per season. Final paperwork is being exchanged, with only a major setback preventing confirmation in the coming hours.

Gyökeres has already agreed personal terms, and sources indicate he will travel to England imminently to undergo a medical and join Arsenal’s pre‑season tour in Asia, including matches in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Sporting CP captain and Portugal’s league top scorer over the past two seasons, Gyökeres has netted an astonishing 97 goals in 102 appearances since joining Sporting in 2023, including 39 in the 2024–25 season alone. Such prolific form has made him one of Europe’s most sought‑after forwards.

The Swedish striker had previously refused to return to Sporting’s pre‑season training amid his desire to secure the move. His representatives also reportedly waived approximately 10 per cent of their fee, smoothing the negotiation process around solidarity payments and instalment schedules.
