Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz says the team will be “the biggest Tottenham fans” this coming week as he hopes the club’s fiercest rival does them a big favour in the Premier League title race next week.

The Gunners came away from Old Trafford with a slim victory over Manchester United on Sunday evening, meaning top spot in the table will be decided on the final day of the season.

The German played in Leandro Trossard after being played miles onside by Casemiro for the only goal of the game.

“We didn’t play our best but we got the three points,” Havertz admitted to Sky Sports after the final whistle. “We can be happy with that.”

“We had only one job today and that’s winning,” Trossard added. “Maybe it wasn’t the prettiest one but in the end it was a good win for us.

“We were looking for that second goal and if it doesn’t come you know it’s going to be a tough second half, especially here with the atmosphere. But credit to the boys, we defended very well and it was a good win.

“We’ve done our job today, it’ll be up to the last game and that’s what we were aiming for. It’ll be a nice week now and then hopefully we can celebrate something. We’ve done our job and that’s the only thing we could have done.”

The result puts Arsenal on top of the Premier League standings by a point, but second-placed Manchester City have a game in hand – against north London rivals Tottenham on Tuesday.

“We’re going to be the biggest Tottenham fans,” Havertz said. “We are all going to be. Let’s hope for the best.”

Arsenal host Everton in their final game of the campaign next Sunday, while Man City take on West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium.
