Arsenal midfielder left out of international squad due to injury | OneFootball

Christian Nørgaard has been left out of Denmark’s squad for September’s World Cup qualifiers as his injury absence continues, with Mikel Arteta confirming last week that the midfielder would not return for “another week or so”.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Leeds, Arteta said: “Christian won’t be in the squad. With Ben, let’s see how he reacts and what we decide. Christian will be out for another week or so.” That gave hope he would return in time for Liverpool, but it seems he will also miss that game now, too.

Nørgaard has not featured in either of Arsenal’s opening two matches of the season, and the club have not disclosed the exact nature of the problem.

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer named 23 players for the qualifiers against Scotland at Parken and Greece in Piraeus, with Nørgaard absent.

Riemer’s squad includes a recall for Andreas Christensen, who returns for the first time since Euro 2024, along with captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Morten Hjulmand, and veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Riemer has also turned to younger players, with 11 of those called up holding fewer than 10 caps. Victor Froholdt, Patrick Dorgu, and former Arsenal youngster Mika Biereth are among them, while Victor Jensen of Utrecht receives his first senior call-up.

Nørgaard, who captained Brentford before joining Arsenal this summer, will now focus on recovering fitness in time for the club’s autumn fixtures, with Arsenal fans awaiting information on when he will be available to return.
