Arsenal Injury Update on Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard Ahead of Manchester United Clash

With the Premier League curtain-raiser fast approaching, Arsenal supporters will be encouraged by the fitness picture emerging from north London. Just days before the opening fixture away to Manchester United, Mikel Arteta has the benefit of a near full-strength squad, with only Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard still working towards full fitness.

Renewed Optimism After Pre-Season Success

Arsenal head into the new campaign buoyed by their recent Emirates Cup triumph over Athletic Club. The 3-0 win saw Viktor Gyokeres open his account following his high-profile move from Sporting CP, while Riccardo Calafiori and Kai Havertz made timely returns from injury.

Arteta’s men looked sharp, confident and tactically assured in their final pre-season outing. That momentum could prove vital at Old Trafford, a ground where the Gunners have found mixed success in recent years.

Leandro Trossard Close to Return

Leandro Trossard missed the win over Athletic Club, having been one of three injury doubts in the build-up. While Havertz and Calafiori were cleared to play, the Belgian forward remained sidelined.

Trossard has not featured since sustaining a groin injury in last month’s pre-season defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Arteta offered a positive update on his condition, suggesting the absence is precautionary rather than a cause for long-term concern.

He said, “I think he is going to be in a few days. He had a little niggle in the groin, but he should be fine.”

That timeline puts Trossard in contention for the Manchester United match on 17 August, a fixture in which his creativity and versatility could be pivotal.

Gabriel Jesus Recovery Continues

Gabriel Jesus’ situation is more complex. The Brazilian has not played for Arsenal since January’s FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United. Persistent knee issues, compounded by a torn cruciate ligament, required another surgical intervention earlier this year.

Jesus has kept fans updated throughout his rehabilitation, posting regular progress reports over the summer. However, a competitive return remains some way off, with his comeback pencilled in for autumn.

Given his importance to Arsenal’s attack, Arteta will be eager to reintegrate Jesus carefully to avoid any recurrence of the injury. In his absence, the likes of Gyokeres, Eddie Nketiah and Trossard will be tasked with carrying the goal-scoring burden.

Arteta’s Selection Outlook

With the exception of Jesus and the short-term absence of Trossard, Arteta’s squad appears in excellent condition heading into the new season. Key players have regained fitness at just the right moment, and the addition of Gyokeres provides further firepower.

The trip to Old Trafford will be an early test of Arsenal’s title ambitions, and the return of Trossard could add an extra layer of attacking flexibility. For Jesus, patience will be required, but his eventual comeback could provide a timely boost as the season enters its decisive months.
