Arsenal are in the final stages of extending the contracts of Mikel Arteta’s backroom staff, according to The Athletic.
The club are reportedly confident of finalising agreements with Nicolas Jover, Carlos Cuesta, Miguel Molina and Albert Stuivenberg.
Jover’s work as set-piece coach has been particularly noteworthy. The 2-0 victory over Manchester United last night underlined his importance at the club.
His statistics are off the charts, with 22 goals scored from corners since the start of last season – more than any other Premier League club.
Jurrien Timber and William Saliba scored from corners against United, and stopping Arsenal in dead-ball situations has been a tough task for most teams.
Jover moved to the Premier League in July 2016, joining Brentford. He was with them until June 2019 before he was brought to Manchester City by Arteta.
After the Arsenal manager signed his deal in September, the club set about negotiating renewals with his coaching staff, with managing director Richard Garlick picking up the talks following the resignation of sporting director Edu.
Jover and others deserve to be rewarded with improved deals, and he will hope to help the Gunners win the Premier League title this term.
They have come close in the last two seasons, missing out on it both times to Man City. The win last night moved within seven points of league leaders Liverpool.
There is enough time for Arsenal to move to the top of the table and remain there until the end of the season with 24 games to play.
While their opponents will keep working to find ways to stop them from scoring from corners, Jover will continue to come up with different ideas to ensure they remain in the title race.
