Arsenal fans watched on as their team struggled through into the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Crystal Palace leading into the second-half until Jesus came to the rescue for the Gunners.
The Arsenal fans eventually seeing their team progress by the narrowest of margins at the Emirates, winning 3-2 thanks to a hat-trick from the Brazilian striker.
Having to wait for the conclusion of the Spurs v Man U match on Thursday night, the draw eventually made for the semi-finals.
Interesting to hear how the Arsenal fans have reacted to drawing Newcastle United, with Tottenham v Liverpool the other tie.
Arsenal fans commenting via their Arsenal Mania message board:
‘Forgot we were still in this even tho we only played last night, don’t care really but winning it is better than not.
Doubt the usual lot will be satisfied with this but losing it will be used as more complainer fuel so I’d rather win it.
4-0 at home and we go away to not lose, should beat this lot really we’re a level or two better.’
‘Wow, we are even at home, Arteta luck is unmatched.’
‘Not quite.’
‘It’s 2 legs and 2nd leg at St James park.
Arteta bad luck is unmatched.’
‘ah forgot it’s two legged, 2nd leg at home would be cooler.’
‘Newcastle?? F… off argh even pools would have been better.’
‘Feels different this year, everyone knows we need a trophy. Any trophy really.
This could be the year.’
‘£700m spent and guys are crossing their fingers for a Carabobbins Cup.
‘Blame the manager that it’s come to this, not me.’
‘Hopefully we destroy them in both legs getting sick of this overrated team turn up only against the big 6’
‘I’d rather Spurs or the Scousers over the Geordies.
The Geordies worry me more over the two legs than these two.’
‘If we don’t care about this cup, we should have lost to Bolton earlier. You don’t start saying “this tournament doesn’t matter” one step before the final.
We must win it now.’
‘Yes if you compare the starting11 but maybe they will be the only team playing with the best 11 without europe.
So I think that will make them the strongest team. Not sure about Spurs but did you see the Liverpool team?’
‘We need a league title to remind teams like this of the gap. Newcastle, Villa and Spurs all thinking we’re the same because they can string a few wins together.’
‘I was hoping Newcastle for us.’
‘Why? They are so horrible to play against.’
‘Newcastle are easily the weakest team.’
‘Newcastle are rubbish.’
‘Newcastle and Spurs are the weakest teams left. We should beat both of them if we play our game.
Liverpool in a one off is a tricky proposition in a one off game.’
‘Didn’t care about this cup but I really want to knock out Newcastle now.’
‘there are no easy draws in the Semis, would have preferred Spursy tho.’
‘Guys we’ll beat Newcastle 😆
Lol they can’t even play their game against us anymore, even when they’re at home.
We’ll rip them apart at home, that I know. And then we’ll just frustrate them and pick them off away. They don’t realise what’s coming here.’
‘It is a good draw, apart from we face the torture of two rancid ties against the true dark arts fc, who will attempt to keep the ball in play for a grand total of about 19 minutes.
The other tie is a win-win, as either Spurs go out, or they eliminate the biggest threat.’
‘We have to absolutely beat this lot. Should be doable if we don’t play like drunkards like we did at SJP
Batter they at home so it makes the second leg a non event.’
‘The last time they came to the Emirates, we smashed them 4-1, it was the possibly the most comfortable game we had all season. I didn’t want to draw them as they make my eyes bleed, no other reason.’
‘Hopefully we seal the deal at home with 3 goal difference at least.
Can’t go to st James park needing a result. If they score first they’ll drag the game.’
‘They’ll be without Schar or Guimaraes but they’ll put out their starting XI.’
‘We don’t play well vs Newcastle and the games will be a tough watch as well.’
‘Revenge time. Plus Liverpool and Spurs tiring each out other is a good thing imo.’
