This week, MailOnline‘s Simon Jones has shaken up the scene by revealing that Arsenal are seriously considering Ademola Lookman as an alternative if the signing of Noni Madueke does not come to fruition. The Gunners have already launched an initial bid of £50m to convince Chelsea, but the Blues are demanding more.

Madueke is willing to sign for five seasons. However, the door is not opening so easily, and the margin for error is narrowing. Lookman, who shines with Atalanta, has a contract until 2027, and his price tag is around €60 million. The Bergamo club will not let him go without a convincing figure.

Will Lookman be a good fit for the Gunners?

In our opinion, Lookman represents a profile that would fit without fanfare into Arteta’s project. The Nigerian has shown in Italy that he can be quick and good on one-on-one out wide, has a nose for goal and offers width, something that is sometimes in short supply at Arsenal when Saka or Martinelli are blocked.

His pace breaks lines, and his dribbling, when inspired, creates chaos in tight defences. As a weakness, Lookman tends to be inconsistent, and in some games, he is disconnected. In addition, his impact in the Premier League was not memorable when he came through Leicester, but since then, he has grown. If the Atalanta star arrives, he would not be an undisputed starter, but he would be a useful addition to rotate and change games from the bench.

Tactically, Arteta asks for wingers who press high, work in defence and know how to move between the lines. Lookman has that ability, although he will have to polish his tactical discipline. The price may seem high, but the current market punishes the undecided. If Madueke slips away and Lookman eventually arrives, it will be key to give him confidence and a clear plan. He has the talent to contribute, as long as he can keep the spark more than he showed in England. All in all, he would be a measured risk signing, with scope to shine under a coach who squeezes every virtue.
