Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on signing AZ Alkmaar star Ruben van Bommel.

After joining the Eredivisie side last summer, the 20-year-old adjusted his game and is now enjoying an impressive start to this campaign.

The son of Dutch legend Mark van Bommel stands at 6ft 3in tall, is a left winger and has the technical attributes to warrant interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The youngster has already scored four goals and registered two assists in seven appearances. Form like that will result in more attention and transfer interest, hence why Van Bommel is being linked with Arsenal and United.

According to Fichajes, United have recently joined the race for Van Bommel’s signature, but the transfer links come out of nowhere.

United were left impressed by Van Bommel’s brace in the Europa League against Elfsborg during the week, while Erik ten Hag’s side drew 1-1 with Eredivisie side FC Twente.

United can’t sign new players in September and our scouts will be doing their homework for upcoming transfer windows. We also have Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho as the options to deploy on the left side of the attack.

Van Bommel, who has made 10 appearances for the Netherlands’ U21s scoring four goals, is a speedster and his contract at AZ runs until 2027.

Bayern Munich are understood to be tracking Van Bommel too.
