One of those listed was Will Sweet, but the good news is that player and club have now reached a successful resolution to extension negotiations.

Arsenal have confirmed that Sweet has agreed his first professional contract, signing on with the club he’s played for since the age of five.

Sweet captained the Arsenal u18s on a number of occasions in 2024/25, but he also spent time stepping up to the u21s.

By the end of the season, that was where he was playing most of his football, starting nine of the final 10 games of the Gunners’ Premier League 2 campaign.

The 18-year-old’s performances over the last couple of years have received recognition internationally, with the Wales u19s giving him his debut in 2024. He’s now made five appearances for the side.

“I feel quite honoured to be at this football club,” Sweet said. “It’s been a long time that I’ve been at the club so I feel like it’s more of a family in the club at this point and I feel really united with the boys and hopefully I can push on this season.

“Obviously getting to play at the Emirates for the first time (in the FA Youth Cup in February), that was quite a surreal moment for me.

“I’ve been coming to the Emirates for a long time, watching the first team, so getting to play on the same pitch as them is quite surreal and quite unbelievable, to be honest.

“I want to be where they are so just looking at what they do day in day out, just trying to better them really and hopefully I can be where they are soon.”
