Arsenal stumbled in the Premier League title race on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten 1-0 by West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal were desperate to take advantage of Liverpool dropping points at Aston Villa midweek but found themselves behind entering half-time. Jarrod Bowen headed the Irons in front just moments before the break following some smart work by Aaron Wan-Bissaka down the right flank.
The Gunners frantically sought an equaliser after half-time but their task was made impossible by the dismissal of Myles Lewis-Skelly with 20 minutes to spare. The substitute was initially awarded a yellow card for hauling Mohammed Kudus down as last man on the halfway line, but his punishment was upgraded to a red after VAR intervention.
Arsenal had struggled all afternoon to create goalscoring opportunities and they found life even more challenging once down to ten men. They were frustrated in their attempts to level the score and ultimately accepted their first home defeat of the Premier League season as they stay eight points behind league leaders Liverpool.
