Liverpool are yet to sign a player during this summer's transfer window, but there are plenty of the Reds' first-team squad earmarked for the exit door.

The Anfield side are reported to be tracking a Championship teen sensation, while Arne Slot has spoken to a former Feyenoord favourite.

Anthony Gordon is now expected to stay at Newcastle despite having his head turned by Liverpool's interest, and Barcelona are expected to look elsewhere due to Luis Diaz's price tag. The Catalans are also in the running for Adrien Rabiot due to his mother's interventions.

There are also updates on Joshua Kimmich and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Here is your Liverpool FC transfer summary for Thursday, 4 July.

Reds tracking Sunderland wonderkid

Liverpool have been named among the Premier League teams tracking Sunderland’s teenage sensation Chris Rigg.

The 17-year-old midfield made a decisive breakthrough to the Sunderland first team last season, appearing in each of the Black Cats’ last 13 Championship games of the season.

He captained England at the recent UEFA European Under-17 Championships, where the Three Lions were beaten on penalties by eventual champions Italy at the quarter-final stage.

Rigg has already represented the England under-18s and is widely tipped for a career at the top level.

Accordingly Liverpool have been mentioned as one elite team tracking Rigg’s development with his current contract expiring in 2025.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Sunderland’s local rivals Newcastle are also in the frame for Rigg’s signature according to a report in HITC.

Nonetheless, the homegrown prospect is ready to let down suitors by committing to a new deal with Sunderland which will extends his terms far beyond 2025.

The north east side, now coached by Regis Le Bris, will therefore get to enjoy their star youth academy product for a while yet.

Hancko reveals Slot Liverpool talks

Feyenoord defender David Hancko has revealed he has SPOKEN to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot since the season ended but does not expect to move to Anfield alongside his former boss.

Hancko, 26 emerged as one of Slot’s favourite players throughout his three year spell in charge of the Rotterdam side.

The left-sided centre back won an Eredivisie title during the 2022/23 season and added a KNVB Beker (Dutch cup) to his collection last term.

The Slovakian played 48 times for Feyenoord last season, scoring seven goals and adding three assists.

The vast majority of his football for his club side has come at centre back but Hancko also excelled at left back for his national team at the European Championship.

Slovakia made it all the way through to the last 16, where their interest in the competition was ended after extra time against England.

Before the tournament Hancko was backed for a summer transfer with Liverpool named as potential suitors.

“I have spoken to him a few times after the end of the season, but I don't think they are looking for a player in my position, so I don't think a transfer to Liverpool will happen, but I wish him the best of luck, he really is a fantastic coach," he said of his ex-manager.

Newcastle expect Gordon to stay

Newcastle United are now reported to be CONFIDENT that they can keep Anthony Gordon at the club through this summer's transfer window.

That’s according to a new report in Football Insider, which claims the Magpies have eased their financial concerns by selling two players before the June 30 profit and sustainability rules deadline.

Yankuba Minteh, a favourite of Arne Slot while on loan at Feyenoord last season, moved to Brighton at the weekend while homegrown prospect Elliott Anderson went to Nottingham Forest.

Those sales brought in nearly £70 million to the club’s coffers, meaning a big-money sale for one of the big Newcastle stars was ultimately avoided.

Chelsea have enquired about forward Alexander Isak while Bruno Guimaraes is reported to be on the shopping list of clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Barca identify Diaz alternative

A high-profile deal touted between Barcelona and Liverpool for Luis Diaz could be well and truly off after the Catalonians found a cut-price alternative.

Sport reiterates that Barcelona are in the market for Luis Diaz and would love to sign the Colombian this summer. He’s not the only high-profile winger they like, either, as Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is also on their radar.

However, Barcelona’s much-publicised financial woes appear set to prevent them from signing either. They simply don't have the financial freedom to get them done, which rules out a transfer unless they can pull off a major sale.

And so Barca are looking at alternatives and appear to have found one. They like Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, an England Under-21 international with a very bright future.

Bynoe-Gittens is just 19 but has quite a bit of experience with Dortmund now. Barcelona will hope to snap him up before his price jumps any higher - which could be as soon as next season.

Kimmich contract offer revealed

Sport Bild reports that Bayern Munich have given Joshua Kimmich conditions over a new contract. The German has under one year left on his contract now, meaning he can agree to a free transfer as soon as January 1st.

Kimmich is still open to renewing is contract but Bayern aren't going to make it easy. They're set key conditions over a new deal and they're conditions that almost certainly prevent an agreement.

For one, Bayern need Kimmich to drastically reduce his salary. He's currently earning around £17m a year but would have to cut that by at least a quarter in any new contract.

It's very difficult to believe that Kimmich would do that, given the offers he'd receive on an open market. He may even receive bigger offers than that this summer if Bayern decide to sell.

And they will surely do just that.

There have been tentative reports over the last six months that Liverpool want Kimmich. He does feel like a natural fit, admittedly - a vastly experienced player who's just about still in his prime.

If he is leaving Bayern, then a cut-price summer deal could be an outstanding one.

Barca in running for Rabiot

Adrien Rabiot is among the high-profile free agents available during this transfer window and his decision to let his Juventus contract expire has sparked a FRENZY for his signature.

The 29-year-old midfielder’s contract elapsed on June 30, putting him into free agency, and there has been no shortage of suitors lining up for the Frenchman.

Liverpool were named among interested sides last week by reports in the Italian media. The Reds are seeking reinforcements across midfield following the contract expiry of Thiago Alcantara.

Rabiot confirmed earlier this week that he is no longer a Juventus player, with the club left stunned with the player and his entourage’s refusal to reply to a contract offer before Euro 2024.

Juve club chiefs had hoped to tie down the former Paris Saint-Germain star to a two-year deal, with a third year added as an option, for an annual salary of around €7.5 million.

However, the left-footed midfielder opted to jet off to the European Championship with his future up in the air, leaving Juventus unsure of his next move.

Adrien Rabiot

Real Madrid are also among the teams linked to the talented ex-Manchester City youth, with Toni Kroos retiring and Luka Modric out of contract.

The Liverpool links are intriguing too with Rabiot coming with outstanding international pedigree and years of service at top European clubs.

Now it has emerged in JijantesFC that Barcelona could be Rabiot’s next destination with the player’s mother and agent, Veronique, reported to have offered her son’s services to the Catalans.

Van den Berg's Champions League temptation

Liverpool misfit Sepp van den Berg suddenly has a Champions League prospect - if the Reds green-light the move.

Eindhovens Dagblad reports that Sepp van den Berg now has PSV Eindhoven chasing him. The Dutchman is at the centre of a true transfer battle this summer.

Van den Berg has made no secret whatsoever of his desire to leave Liverpool. He's publicly talked about the Reds holding his career hostage with their asking prices and lack of desire to sell.

It's coming to a head this summer. The interest in Van den Berg is certainly there, though, with PSV the latest club to show interest after his fine performances for Mainz 05 last season.

But there's a hang-up, of course. PSV can't afford Liverpool's asking price of around £20m. They'd need the Reds to lower that in order to make a move.

And that depends on how the next few weeks go. Van den Berg may get his wish - or may see his frustrations proven correct.

Reds pipped to Chelsea striker by City

It was reported last week that Liverpool were set to beat Arsenal and Manchester City to the signing of Ryan McAidoo, a hugely talented midfielder-cum-attacker primed to leave Chelsea’s academy this summer.

McAidoo, who has only just turned 16, featured at under-18 Premier League level for the Blues last season, playing four times in total.

However, the Reds are now reported to have lost out on McAidoo, with the move being hijacked at the 11th hour by City.

Mamardashvili scouted by Liverpool

It’s been claimed Liverpool are interested in Georgia’s Euro 2024 hero Giorgi Mamardashvili amid ongoing uncertainty over their goalkeeping department this summer.

The 23-year-old Valencia goalkeeper significantly augmented his reputation during the European Championship, making more saves than any other shot-stopper during the group stages.

Georgia ultimately bowed out at the last-16 stage following defeat to Spain but Mamardashvili leaves the tournament with his head held high.

The 6 '6 giant has been with Valencia since 2021, developing a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world throughout his time at Mestalla.

Last season he kept 13 clean sheets in 37 LaLiga games, excelling for a side who ultimately only finished ninth in the table.

He is under contract with Los Che until 2027, having signed a renewal in 2022, and his deal is reported to include a €100 million buyout clause.
