Armand Laurienté’s (26) transfer to Sunderland from Sassuolo has collapsed, according to a report from Fabrice Hawkins. Despite the former Lorient attacker travelling to England to complete a medical, the Frenchman’s move has now been called off.
The newly promoted Premier League club opted against sanctioning the transfer for the 26-year-old. Instead, Sunderland are deciding to pursue other targets to reinforce their attacking talents as a full agreement could not be reached due to a difference in the valuation for Laurienté, the Sunerland Echo reports.
Sassuolo were holding out for a fee in the region of £25.3m, but the Black Cats chose not to follow up their interest with a second offer. Laurienté will now return to Italy as Sunderland look for alternative targets to bolster the attacking options of Régis Le Bris. The former Lorient manager has made it clear that his squad needs to be reinforced, stating in a recent press conference, “It’s clear that we need to reinforce the squad, but it’s always two points of view.”
