Valentin Carboni was not the likeliest hero for Inter Milan against Urawa Red Diamonds.

The Argentine is only just coming back from an ACL tear that has kept him out since October.

But it was Carboni who Inter coach Cristian Chivu turned to late in the Nerazzurri’s Club World Cup match against Urawa Red Diamonds.

When Chivu threw the 20-year-old on off the bench, Inter were trailing 0-1 in the Club World Cup group stage clash.

However, Lautaro Martinez was able to find the equalizer for Inter.

From then on, it looked as though the Nerazzurri would be settling for a point.

However, it was Carboni who found himself with the ball at his feet inside the penalty area in stoppage time. And the Argentine showed great technique and composure to tuck the ball into the far corner.

After the match, Valentin Carboni commented that “I’m very happy with the win.”

“Because we deserved it. And we had to win to keep our dream alive.”

Then, the 20-year-old admitted that “it’s a huge emotion for me, because I’ve suffered a lot over the last few months.”

“It’s been very difficult for me,” Carboni continued.

“I wanted to dedicate it to my family and to my girlfriend, who have been close to me. Now I’m very happy.”

Carboni went on that “I think this goal is a reward for all that I’ve had to go through in the last few months.”

“What motivates me is continuing to play football,” added the Argentine.

“Which I’ve known how to do since I was very little.”

Meanwhile, Carboni called Inter captain Lautaro Martinez “a great example.”

“Now I can see more closely the hunger and the ruthlessness he has. I try to follow what he does, and his mentality.”
