RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is “appreciated” by Chelsea, but he’s one to watch in the summer according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are desperate for an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, who hasn’t found the back of the net in his last seven games, although Enzo Maresca has backed the 23-year-old to start scoring again.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Liam Delap, whilst they have also reportedly joined the race for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.

Chelsea appreciate Sesko

Jackson has been the main for Maresca’s side this season with Christopher Nkunku the back-up option, but the Frenchman isn’t a number nine and has offered very little in that role in the league.

The 27-year-old has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season, but just two of those have come in the Premier League.

Chelsea have needed a striker since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022, and whilst Jackson has done well, it doesn’t make sense how with the amount of money invested in the squad there isn’t a viable alternative option.

It’s surely a position Chelsea will address in the summer as they can’t afford to continue with their current situation into next season.

Romano has provided an update on their striker hunt and has reported the Blues appreciate RB Leipzig forward Sesko.

“Benjamin Šeško is appreciated by Chelsea! However, it’s one for the summer, not January, and he’s also an Arsenal target,” he told his YouTube channel.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal had shown strong interest last summer in the 21-year-old, who has scored 14 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions this season.

Sesko very much fits the mould in terms of Chelsea’s recruitment model and is a different profile to Jackson, but it looks like it could be a highly competitive race for his signature in the summer.

If the Blues are to stand any chance then they have to qualify for the Champions League, with Enzo Maresca’s  side currently a point outside the top four.
