Manchester United suffered their 13th Premier League defeat of the Premier League season as they were battered 4-0 by an in-form Crystal Palace side.

In yet another game, Erik ten Hag’s men performed below the expected standards and were harshly punished for their mistakes.

Palace’s goals were grabbed by Michael Olise who got a superb brace, with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell also finding the back of the net.

United had the lion’s share of possession (58%) but did nothing with it. They only managed two shots on target from their total seven cracks at goal. In comparison, the Eagles registered 18 total shots, with 10 of these requiring Andre Onana to swing into action.

The Red Devils put together 591 passes with a success rate of 84%. Palace on the other hand made 430 passes with a pass accuracy of 81%.

At Selhurst Park, the majority of United’s stars produced poor performances, with Antony epitomising the team’s shocking display in the match.

That he was included in the starting XI in itself raised eyebrows, considering how awful he’s been in the past few games. Most supporters feel that Amad Diallo, who has shown promise when given opportunities from the bench, deserves to be ahead of the ineffective Antony in the pecking order.

To highlight just how poor Antony was vs. Palace, he was taken off in the 60th minute for Sofyan Amrabat, a defensive midfielder.

Antony managed to deliver 13 of the pitiful 19 passes he attempted. The Brazilian had 27 touches of the ball to his name.

He failed to make a single key pass or cross.

The one shot the 24-year-old managed was off-target and didn’t at all trouble Dean Henderson between the sticks.

Antony embarked on two dribbles but failed to complete any of them. He was locked down. He attempted to make two tackles but none was successful.

The winger won just three of the seven ground duels he delved into and lost the one aerial challenge he was required to contest. He also lost possession of the ball on eight occasions.

Ahead of the summer, United must start to plan for life without Antony. He simply offers nothing and seems to be taking up a place for a teammate who probably deserves it more.
