Erik ten Hag’s recent tactical approach that has seen Manchester United concede an alarming number of shots each game has left many fans unconvinced about the idea of him remaining at the helm beyond this season.

INEOS are yet to make a final decision concerning his long-term position at Man United, and recent performances may further intensify uncertainty regarding the same.

His tactics are not the only problem. The Dutch coach has left a lot to be desired with his recruitment decisions as well.

In particular, many fans and pundits alike still can not get their heads around his decision to spend more than €90m to reunite with his Ajax star Antony.

The Brazilian who followed Ten Hag from Amsterdam to Manchester in 2022 seemingly left his goal-scoring shoes or for that matter, all of his footballing ability, at Ajax.

Antony has proven to be an extremely underwhelming signing, who has got worse with each passing day. This term, he is yet to score a Premier League goal despite 25 appearances under his belt.

Regardless, the 24-year-old is not willing to give up, ready to turn things around at United.

Speaking to MUTV, Antony insisted: “I’m really happy with my form, I’ve worked very hard every day towards this. I’ve been working hard in training for months now, so I’m very pleased with my performances and I hope to improve with every game.”

Antony showed a glimpse of his Ajax self against Chelsea early this month when he found Alejandro Garnacho in the opposition’s penalty area with a lovely curved pass.

He intends to build on that, adding: “You can certainly expect a lot of these moments. As I said, my confidence is back through hard work. This despite having gone through a lot, I’ve been through some very difficult moments.

“Today, I’m turning things around and have been for quite a while now. Importantly, I continue working regardless of the situation.”

A single moment of magic at Stamford Bridge did raise many eyebrows but it is unlikely to change many opinions about him.

As things stand, many United fans would be happy to open the exit door for the Brazil international. And considering Ten Hag’s recent work, like the summer of 2022, both may find each other travelling the same path once again.
