Atleti currently sit fourth in the La Liga table; however, a huge 18-point gap exists between themselves and league-leaders Barcelona.

Barça are, of course, the former club of Atletico forward Griezmann.

In the 25th minute of Sunday’s match, the pink-haired Frenchman showed his class after inadvertently treading on the back of Mingueza’s boot.

The boot in question came off and Griezmann, instead of walking away, stayed next to his injured opponent and undid the laces - even using his teeth at one point.

Atletico’s world-class No. 8 wanted to make sure the boot was ready for Mingueza to pop back on if he was deemed fit enough to continue playing.

Lovely stuff from Griezmann.

It should be noted that the two are former Barcelona teammates. Still, on this occasion they were rivals and Griezmann has deservedly received praise for his actions.

Did Antoine Griezmann deserve a white card?

One fan even suggested that Griezmann should have been awarded a white card by referee Jorge Figueroa.

For those unaware, football history was made last month during a women’s match between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica when a white card was shown for the very first time.

White cards are a new initiative to encourage ethical values in sport - and Griezmann’s actions certainly fall into that category.

Mingueza and Griezmann both left Barcelona in 2022

Mingueza came through the Barcelona youth ranks and has represented Spain on one occasion.

The 23-year-old centre-back left Camp Nou last summer, signing a permanent four-year deal with Celta in a deal worth a reported €3 million.
