Another frustrating update on Spurs winger

Back in August, there was plenty of excitement when Spurs announced the signing of Burnley winger Wilson Odobert, in a completely out of the blue deal. The young Frenchman came with glaring reviews from the Burnley fanbase, whom all wished him well and explained how much potential he has.

The winger was even named on the shortlist for the golden boy award, seeing his name amongst the likes of Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal, as well as players such as; Savio of Manchester City, Joao Neves of Paris Saint-Germain, Arda Guler of Real Madrid, and Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund.

However, it has been a really tough start to life in North London, through no fault of his own. Having started, and looked bright in spells, against Everton and Newcastle United, the youngster picked up an injury in the Carabao Cup victory over Coventry City back in September. He made his return in a cameo appearance against AZ Alkmaar, but picked up another injury, and has not been seen since.

Towards the back end of 2024, Odobert confirmed via his social media that he had hamstring surgery, in an attempt to stop these reoccuring injuries. Recently, he posted a story showing him seemingly in training, at least of some sort.

Spurs to be without promising winger for a long while yet

However, if that was the case - then it appears he has suffered another setback. Either that or he just wasn't training. This is because reliable ITK Paul O Keefe has provided a concerning update, saying the following when asked for an update on the 20-year old's situation: "Miles off. Be very late in the season probably."

Unless Spurs are in the latter stages of the FA Cup an/or Europa League, the latter stages of the season will be in vain. Even the Carabao Cup will be done by March, regardless of what happens in that time. So this is pretty frustrating news.

We have seen Heung-Min Son run into the ground, as a result of not having a (capable) back up behind him. Luckily, that should, hopefully improve with the return of Mikey Moore, but the absence of Odobert for near enough the entire season is incredibly frustrating. That is not a criticism of him, no doubt he is more annoyed than anyone that he is unable to help the team and make a contribution.
