Another departure from the Barça academy is now confirmed, as Pedro Soma is set to leave Barça Atletic this summer.
According to SPORT, the talented midfielder will return to his former club, UE Cornella, after Barcelona decided not to activate the purchase option for his federative rights.
With Barça Atletic’s relegation, the club’s plans for the reserve team have been thrown into disarray. The relegation has forced the management to rethink their approach, leading to a wave of exits.
Soma, who was a regular under both reserve team coaches and especially valued during the strong finish to the season under Sergi Mila, is one of the key names now heading out.
Pedro Soma, a youth international for the United States, made 28 appearances in the Primera RFEF this past season. Despite the team’s struggles, he impressed with his maturity and consistency in midfield.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with offers reportedly coming in from Spain, England, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
Although his time at Barça Atletic is ending, Soma’s future remains bright. He had already featured for UE Cornella’s senior side before joining Barcelona, and now returns with more experience and maturity.
In the coming days, Soma is expected to carefully evaluate his options before making a decision about the next step in his career.
As for Barça Atletic, the team now faces a period of serious restructuring. With several players leaving, including Soma, the focus will shift to promoting youth from Juvenil A.
These youngsters, who have been waiting for their chance, are likely to take on bigger roles next season as the club looks to rebuild and bounce back.
The summer will be long and full of movement at the academy level, as Barcelona looks to reshape its future from the ground up.
