Atlético de Madrid probably thought they had seen the last of Ángel Di María, but 10 years on from their last meeting, he has come back to haunt them once again with a goal for Benfica in their Champions League tie.
The 36-year-old Argentine World Cup winner put his side 2-0 in front early into the second half in Lisbon, and brought back terrible memories for everyone connected with Atléti.
Di María had a stunning record against Diego Simeone’s side while with arch-rivals Real from 2010 to 2014, winning 10 of the 14 games. The last of those? The 2014 Champions League final, where he won Man of the Match as Los Blancos equalised at the death, and eventually won 4-1.
The more things change, the more they stay the same?!
