The South American side had a free kick in the 27’ as Franco Mastantuono took his chance on target, only to be denied by Monterrey keeper Esteban Andrada.

River Plate had corner kick opportunity in the closing moments of the first half, when Lucas Martínez Quarta sent an effort from close range just wide in the 45’+2’.

Gerardo Arteaga, who ended the match with four forced turnovers, made a pivotal clearance in the 59’ to defuse a precarious situation inside the penalty area.
