Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has dropped a huge hint where Diogo Dalot could play in the long term.
The Red Devils have had a good start under the Portuguese tactician. They played out a 1-1 Premier League draw at Ipswich Town before beating Bodo/Glimt 3-2 at home in the Europa League.
While United scored within the second minute in both of those games, they were defensively vulnerable. The club’s defensive organisation should improve with the 3-4-2-1 set-up.
Ahead of the Everton game on Sunday, reporters presented Amorim with plenty of questions, one of which focused on Dalot, who was a second-half substitute yesterday.
The 39-year-old said (via Beanyman Sports): “He’s very powerful. We have to rotate him sometimes because he always looks fresh, but he’s not like that – he’s not a machine!
“I think he plays better on the right, and we will manage to put him there – he’s a very good player.”
The 25-year-old was an undisputed starter under former manager Erik ten Hag, but he may not have a similar role with Amorim, who could rotate his players depending on the opposition.
Amad Diallo and Antony have so far played from the right wing-back position. Amorim has clearly hinted that Dalot could compete for places with the duo. Noussair Mazraoui is another choice.
Mazraoui has been a revelation on the right side of the back three, with over 100 passes in each of the last two outings.
His future could be as a wing-back once Leny Yoro is deemed fit to start.
