Everton maintained their unbeaten run to six games in the Premier League but David Moyes will be really disappointed with the 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Goodison Park.
The Toffees went 2-0 up at the break with goals coming from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Everton totally dominated their first half, and it felt like they would pick up another victory. But, United came back strongly and levelled the tie through Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte.
Towards the end of the game, Andrew Madley awarded Everton a penalty as Ashley Young went down under Harry Maguire’s challenge.
However, the decision was reversed after a video assistant referee check.
After the decision was reversed, he added: “Wow. You know something, I can see why he’s not given it, but I would have given it. I think there’s enough of a tug on him [Ashley Young].”
The decision sparked mixed reactions among the pundits. Theo Walcott suggested that he totally agreed with the referee that it was not a penalty, mainly because of the way Young fell on the ground.
He said: “I totally agree with the referee, I don’t think that was a penalty. Naturally [when you are challenged] you don’t fall that way.”
Everton will be really disappointed with that result, and they will see it as two points dropped.
A draw against Man Utd (even though they have been very poor this season) isn’t a bad result, but the way they started the game, dominated for the most part and then conceded two goals would frustrate them.
The Red Devils found energy when they got the first goal back, and from there on, they kept pushing for an equaliser. It is a major controversial decision, no doubt, and Everton will feel they have been robbed.
