The man from The Athletic stating that the Sweden international is on his way back to the UK and ‘is set to resume training with Newcastle United following a spell working individually at Real Sociedad.’

Alexander Isak has been doing fitness work with his personal trainer at Real Sociedad’s Zubieta Facilities.

However, the striker now set to return to the Newcastle United to meet up with the rest of the first team squad when they return to Tyneside after Sunday’s friendly with Tottenham in Seoul.

Friday saw Liverpool make a derisory formal bid of £110m for Alexander Isak, some £40m below Newcastle’s much reported £150m+ valuation of the striker.

The offer especially farcical when Liverpool had previously indicated to Newcastle United verbally that they had been prepared to offer £120m.

Eddie Howe was quizzed about the striker’s situation earlier on Saturday at his pre-Tottenham press conference in Seoul (see below).

Eddie Howe asked about the media claims on Friday regarding a £110m bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak:

“I was made aware that there was a bid (for Alexander Isak from Liverpool) yesterday (Friday), that was turned down almost before I even heard about it.

“There are people back in England dealing with the situation.

“I am very much removed from anything that’s happening back home.

“I really don’t know what’s going to happen next.

“But from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way.

“My wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt (this coming season).”

Eddie Howe asked if he was upset with Liverpool for unsettling Alexander Isak:

“It’s difficult because you don’t know what is going to happen.

“There may be all sorts of talk, all sorts of hypothetical situations, but then you are dealing with reality.

“The reality is that we had that bid from Liverpool yesterday, that was turned down.

“In terms of trying to upset players?

“From my perspective, I can only talk about us.

“We try to do things the right way.

“Signing players is always complex and we just try to do what we think is right.

“I can’t talk about other clubs…

“That is not for me to say.”

Eddie Howe asked about the media reports that Alexander Isak is doing fitness work in San Sebastian, at Real Sociedad’s training ground and whether he has permission to be in Spain doing this:

“I know where he is, really, through the media.
