Following FC Bayern Munich’s dramatic stoppage-time defeat to Real Madrid, it is clear that the record champions will end this season without a single title. For Leon Goretzka, this could mean a title-less farewell, as rumours of a possible transfer continue to swirl. Nevertheless, his words on Instagram sound more like a stay.
For the first time since 2012, FC Bayern will finish a season without a title, a certainty after the semi-final exit in the Champions League against Real Madrid.
Leon Goretzka addressed the Bayern fans with an emotional statement after the bitter end: „When Alphonso Davies welded things together and I looked up at you, felt the energy, I was sure that we were going to the final. Then everything changed. Football showed its most brutal side that evening.“
In addition to thanking the fans, Goretzka also let it be known on Instagram that he would like to stay in Munich: „Thank you very much and … we’ll be back,“ he wrote.
The 29-year-old has been the subject of transfer rumours for some time now. Goretzka himself emphasised at the start of the year that he would like to stay in Munich. His most recent post suggests that he would also like to attack with Bayern in the coming season and carry on the club’s DNA as a leading player.
However, the decision as to whether he stays or not could ultimately be out of his hands. According to information from kicker, Juventus, among others, are showing interest in him and the Spanish portal Fichajes has already reported that FC Barcelona are preparing an offer of €30 million.
The German international, whose contract runs until 2026, was already considered a candidate for sale last summer, but has shown a clear upward trend in form this year.
