Scholars from the Leeds United Under-18s will next month be competing in the Leeds Dragon Boat Race, raising funds for Martin House Hospice.
The youngsters will take to the water at Roundhay Park on Sunday 7th September, with fans encouraged to attend the event and cheer on the team.
Martin House provides family-led hospice care free of charge for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, with a highly specialised team offering care at two different sites, as well as bereavement support, and antenatal and neonatal provisions.
The club have worked closely alongside the charity to help support the wonderful work it does, with first-team players Ilia Gruev, Illan Meslier and Josuha Guilavogui meeting up with children and their families at last year’s Christmas party.
Katie Slee, Academy Education & Player Care Manager, said: “I am proud of our scholars for getting behind this year’s Dragon Boat Race fundraiser. It shows what a cohesive, driven and compassionate group they are and the strength of their team spirit.
“Martin House is a fantastic local charity that cares for babies, children, teenagers and young adults – many the same age as our academy players. They have been welcoming our U18 squad on visits for over 20 years, helping our boys to see first-hand the care, support and dignity they show to families in incredibly difficult times.
“The boys know how much Martin House means to our community and to the Leeds United family, and they are determined to give it everything on the water to raise as much as they can for such an outstanding charity.”
