AC MILAN WOMEN, SEASON RECAP

Here we are, at the finish line. The Rossonere, first under Coach Ganz and then under Coach Corti, didn't compete at the upper end of the table but, in what was a long season, did have some positive moments and make strides forward, thus building the foundation for a bright future. AC Milan, who took part in the Women's Serie A and Coppa Italia, didn't win any trophies, but there were certainly some encouraging signs: the team did particularly well in the latter stages of the campaign, and many new faces produced some good performances alongside more established figures.

From Stašková, Piga and Laurent through to Cernoia, Swaby, Copetti, Marinelli, Nadim and Ijeh: these players first needed to settle in, but then they began to prove their worth. With so many new additions both in the summer and during the winter, it was inevitable that time and patience would be required: they needed to adjust and get to grips with the entire Rossonere environment before understanding certain tactical aspects. The team also had to deal with Grimshaw's unfortunate injury, and there was also the recent news about the retirement of Laura Fusetti, who received a fantastic tribute from the AC Milan faithful.

The league kicked off, and the Rossonere made a slow start. It meant that there would be no repeat of last season's third-place finish, which would have been worth a European spot this season. AC Milan finished the regular season in sixth, which meant competing in the Relegation Round. In the Coppa Italia, meanwhile, there can't be too many regrets: the team reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by Roma, the Champions of Italy.

The second phase of the season was undoubtedly positive. AC Milan displayed their technical quality and honoured the league all the way by remaining unbeaten. Six wins and two draws, which arrived when the team were already assured of sixth spot, in eight games, with plenty of goals to boot (on average, over 2.5 per game). The future bodes well, and not just for the First Team: the women’s Primavera won a historic Scudetto and certainly have no shortage of promising players to keep an eye on.
