Milan Plan Summer Reset as Chukwueze Edges Closer to Exit

At AC Milan, the post-mortem on a disappointing season is already underway. While Rafael Leão and Theo Hernández remain central to any long-term rebuild, focus has shifted firmly to those deemed surplus to requirements. According to Calciomercato.com, four players are now expected to leave, with Samuel Chukwueze’s name topping the list.

The Nigerian winger arrived last summer amid cautious optimism following a standout spell with Villarreal. But his time in Italy has fallen flat. As Calciomercato put it bluntly, “his experience in Italy is a total flop.” With that, the Rossoneri are prepared to move him on—and the Premier League could offer a convenient solution.

Fulham Deal Back on the Table

In January, Chukwueze came close to securing a switch to Fulham. It appeared a move that made sense for all parties. But “the transfer fell through because the two clubs had not found an agreement on the formula,” as the report notes. Despite the failed attempt, there remains mutual interest in revisiting the deal this summer.

The appeal for Fulham is obvious. Chukwueze’s directness and speed suit the Premier League, and his value has dropped significantly since his €20 million plus €7 million bonus move to Milan. Now, he is valued between €12 and €15 million—a relatively low-risk investment for a side seeking attacking depth.

From Milan’s side, it is about cutting losses. The 24-year-old has failed to establish himself and lacks the tactical discipline expected in Serie A. A fresh start in England or Spain—where Real Sociedad and Real Betis are also said to be monitoring—feels inevitable.

Other Exits Expected

Chukwueze is not the only departure expected at San Siro. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has endured an injury-ravaged second season. “There is only one adjective to describe Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s second season at Milan: unlucky,” reads the report. Milan will attempt to move the Englishman on, though his wages and inconsistent availability could complicate matters.

Yunus Musah also looks likely to leave. The American midfielder has featured frequently but without real impact. He has become a target of fan frustration and is thought to have suitors in both France and England, with Antonio Conte reportedly a fan.

Then there is Filippo Terracciano—a professional by all accounts, but a player who simply hasn’t broken through. After early opportunities under Paulo Fonseca, he has drifted into the background.

Milan’s Reset and Premier League Links

This summer will be pivotal for Milan. Missing out on key objectives has exposed flaws in squad balance and recruitment, and the willingness to part ways with multiple players signals a commitment to a refreshed direction.

For Fulham, it presents a timely opportunity. Chukwueze remains a player with raw talent, capable of match-winning moments when placed in the right system. If the London club can find an agreement this time, they could benefit from Milan’s desire to offload.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Chukwueze would be a really interesting addition to Fulham. He’s rapid, unpredictable, and clearly has talent—he just needs the right environment to express it. At £12-15 million, it’s a relatively low-risk signing. They need more players who can stretch teams and offer something different, and Chukwueze ticks that box. Hopefully, the club doesn’t let this one slip again like it did in January.

For AC Milan, it’s disappointing how things turned out with Chukwueze. When he arrived, there was hope that he’d bring flair and tempo, especially in big European nights. But it never clicked. Serie A can be a hard place for certain types of wingers to thrive, and sadly, he looked like a poor fit tactically.

Moving him on is the right decision—and if they can get a decent fee, even better. The same goes for Loftus-Cheek and Musah. It’s time for the club to be ruthless and build a more coherent squad.
