Shortly after Marc Bernal’s ACL injury, which has sidelined him for the entire season, Barcelona were immediately linked with a move for Adrien Rabiot.

The Frenchman emerged as a potential wild card option for Barça in the market, in the club’s bid to find a temporary solution in the defensive midfield position.

Although coach Hansi Flick is reportedly counting on Marc Casado to fill in Bernal’s shoes, an experienced operator like Rabiot could prove to be handy.

AC Milan ready to compete with Barcelona for Rabiot

However, Barcelona are set to face stiff competition from AC Milan in the race to sign Adrien Rabiot this summer.

According to Fichajes, AC Milan have tabled a lucrative four-year offer for Rabiot, offering him an attractive salary of €6 million per year.

Milan’s offer, coupled with Barcelona’s economic woes, could put the Rossoneri in a favourable position to sign the Frenchman.

Rabiot is currently a free agent. He is without a club after leaving Juventus, but due to his vast experience of playing in France, Italy and England, he has become an attractive option for many European clubs, including Barcelona.

That said, the Catalans have evidently encountered issues registering players and registering someone with Rabiot’s salary could prove to be a difficult proposition, if not impossible.

Therefore, everything suggests the former PSG midfielder could be on his way to Milan this summer, as he looks to take the next step in his career.

Barcelona, meanwhile, must continue to find other alternatives for the defensive midfield position. At the moment, the club’s best bets appear to be in-house options such as Pau Prim or Marc Casado.
