Luka Modric continues to weave his magic at the age of 39 and is one of the best players on the planet. His time at Real Madrid, however, is inching closer towards an end.

The ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, after all, is his final tournament in a Real Madrid shirt after the board refused to accept his request for an extension. The player, thus, has only a few games left with the club of his dreams.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it seems increasingly likely that his next destination will be AC Milan in the Serie A and that Europe will not have to bid adieu to the genius yet.

Milan administrator confirms the move

Speaking in a recent interview, AC Milan’s Sporting Director Igli Tara was asked about the potential signing of Luka Modric and whether the deal was really a possibility this summer, especially with the Croatian certainly leaving Real Madrid.

“Luka Modric? I spoke to him personally and I saw in him a player with a great desire to compete. His arrival is essential for a group that needs players like him,” he began as quoted by Milan Reports.

He then went on to state how Modric was still extremely motivated to play at the highest level and how the team’s competitiveness was his primary criteria for selecting his next destination.

“The first question Luka asked me was: ‘Will we be a team capable of winning the league?’ He has won six Champions League titles and wants to be a star from the start.”

“This is important because of the mentality, leadership and professionalism he will bring,” he added.

Finally, the sporting director relayed his excitement over the Croatian star’s arrival, saying,

“Being a Milan fan adds to the excitement of this story, and it would be great if he could be a star in just one season.”
