Manchester United clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt in Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League clash.
Alejandro Garnacho gave Man United a flying start but the visitors made a strong comeback to take the lead.
Two goals from Rasmus Hojlund proved to be the difference between the two sides. He got a 8/10 rating from our side.
The Denmark international revealed that Amorim’s half-time advice inspired him to score the match-winning goal.
He said after the game (via BBC Sport): “He told me not to think too much about the guys behind me and just work on what I can see in front of me. We saw that with the first goal.
“The manager told me at half-time to stick to running at the near post and we saw with the third goal how it worked out.
“Obviously it’s going to take time and we can already see some patterns. Now for us it’s time to build. For me this system reminds me of how I played in a 3-4-3 at Atalanta. It suits me well.”
Hojlund stole the show and guided United to their second victory of the Europa League campaign.
His relentless off-the-ball work rate was crucial in creating the opening goal.
It seemed like United would be going in the half-time 2-1 behind but an ‘absolutely brilliant‘ strike from Hojlund brought United level.
He took a sublime first touch with his left foot to control the ball before firing a shot with his right foot after creating separation from the defender.
Amorim told him to make runs at the near post and he duly followed those instructions to net his second goal.
His intelligent run to get to the end of Ugarte’s cross followed by a sliding finish will impress the new head coach.
He could have bagged his hat-trick but Garnacho opted to take the shot himself instead of squaring it to the Dane.
The Red Devils will next face Everton at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
